Cobbossee Integration Services provides support to adults with developmental disabilities so they can participate in their community.
Participants receive support and individualized assistance as they identify community participation goals, develop action plans, and make daily choices about the activities and interests they will pursue. The people who receive support through Community Integration Services take part in a wide variety of volunteerism and recreational activities throughout the Kennebec Valley Region.
Volunteering gives you an opportunity to change people’s lives helping others in need is such an important part of life. Some of our volunteer activities include serving food at a homeless shelter, volunteering to spend time at a retirement community, helping out at your church or synagogue, taking part in a park cleanup day, working in an animal shelter, or helping out at a school.
A job coach will be provided to the person while he or she learns their job. A coach will find ways to make the more difficult tasks of the job easier to learn. A coach is with the person during the time the job is first obtained. A fade-back plan may be introduced to allow the person to perform their job more independently. The development of natural supports in the workplace is important to the person for participation in personal relationships and involvement in the community. A job coach will maintain contact with the employer for as long as the person is employed. Specific services provided will be determined at the Employment Planning Meeting.
